Recording Your DD214/NGB22

This ensures Veterans and their families have an available copy of this document if the original is lost or damaged.

Pursuant to Ohio Revised Code 317.24, a discharge record is NOT a public record for a period of 75 years after the date of recording.

• Bring your original DD214/NGB22 or certified copy along with a valid photo ID into the Recorder’s office.
• A staff person will record your document while you wait.
• You will receive your original back.
• There is no charge for this service.

Obtaining a recorded certified copy of your DD214/NGB22

Only an authorized party (ORC 317.24) will be allowed to receive a copy or inspect the record.
An authorized party includes:

• The person who is the subject of the discharge
• A county veterans service officer
• An attorney-in-fact, agent or other representative of the veteran on record of discharge, if authorized by a power of attorney or other document.
• A person authorized by a court of record
• If the person on the record of discharge is deceased, the executor, heir, legatee, or devisee of the person’s estate or a funeral director who is to perform the funeral may receive a copy.

Valid ID or above noted documentation will have to be shown to receive a copy.
